Pharmacy Technician

  • 15 weeks

  • 400 Hour Program -200 Hours Classroom Theory & 200 Hours Clinical Externship (required)

  • The Pharmacy Technician program is designed to teach fundamentals of being a Pharmacy Technincian. The class equips students with the basic skills and understanding of the profession in preparation for the State Licensure exam and entry level employment. The curriculum provides 200 classroom hours of theory which includes knowledge of practice settings, standards, ethics, laws and regulations. Knowledge and ability to calculate common dosages, also employ metric and apothecary systems. Knowledge and understanding of the identification of drugs, drug dosages, route, forms, and storage requirments, knowledge of the ability to perform record keeping, techniques relating to manufacturing, packaging and labeling of drug products. In addition to theory, 200 hours of clinical externship is required. A graduate of Academy of Acadiana who has recieved a certificate of completion in the Pharmacy Technician program must obtain an additional 400 hours of practical experience on their own before they will qualify for a license from the Board of Pharmacy.

Pharmacy Technician Students wear seal blue scrubs with white closed toe shoes. White lab coat if needed.
